Time to kill it (EDITED)

Postby ChrisA on Tue Jul 08, 2008 11:20 pm

This bullshit has gone on long enough rj. Your distro, quite realistically sucks. Here are some points. I know this will sting but here you go.

1. No one cares. There are more than enough Linux distros. Pick one.
2. Distrowatch wont even touch you with a 10 foot pole. Wheres your listing? There isnt even one.
3. You only have 2 users. The french guy and yourself. Thats it.
4. You lack the resources to create a decent distro. 32 bit is dead, you dont even have a 64 bit version and Im pretty sure your "Appliance" and your server suck as much as the "workstation" versions.
5. Your distro is obsolete, read the above points.

Your effort sucks. Anyone who uses this PC/OS is on a sinking ship. Go back to Microsoft, go back to OS X. Quit wasting your time and Im pretty sure your PC/OS is illegal as hell since you include proprietary software.

The cold hard reality is that this PC/OS is stupid and you are wasting your time. I told you on Channel 9 that your distro would fail and it does me very proud that you fell flat on your face. Wipe the egg off your face. Your distro is dead, and thats the hard truth. Grow up.

Seeing as though you are a gNewSense user, corona aka Chris aka Beer, Im going to assume you havent used PC/OS in any of its incarnations.

Lets go over your "points"

" No one cares. There are more than enough Linux distros. Pick one."

I care and thats all that matters. If the other distributions did as I wanted I would just pick one.

" Distrowatch wont even touch you with a 10 foot pole. Wheres your listing? There isnt even one. "

I really could care less about Distrowatch. If they ever list the distribution or not I dont care. Im not here to cater to the entire Linux community. Some will like my distribution, some wont and Im happy with that.

" You only have 2 users. The french guy and yourself. Thats it."

Actually, I have more than two users. I have quite a few users and even more Server users. How many copies of Appliance have been sold? 16 copies. All 16 of them still use PC/OS Appliance and are happy with feature set and performance.

" You lack the resources to create a decent distro. 32 bit is dead, you dont even have a 64 bit version and Im pretty sure your "Appliance" and your server suck as much as the "workstation" versions."

Do you know how many PC/OS users have requested 64bit. Including yourself, 4. Some are happy running PC/OS in 32 bit mode and if I ever get a 64 bit machine I will do a port. Im only one man doing the best I can, some will like it. Some wont, oh well.

" The cold hard reality is that this PC/OS is stupid and you are wasting your time. I told you on Channel 9 that your distro would fail and it does me very proud that you fell flat on your face. Wipe the egg off your face. Your distro is dead, and thats the hard truth. Grow up."

The cold hard reality of it is that its my time and none of your business. Yeah, I remember what you said on Channel 9 and let me tell you something. I wont put up with the flaming or the insults. One more inflammatory post and if you insult my users, you will be banned. Oh and I can ban you based on IP as well. These forums are for support and for productive feedback. If you arent going to contribute go away.

YAHOO!

PCOS8, you can disregard my PM. You have answered me in spades.

It's obvious that the 64 bit issue is just a ruse for him to continue his shameful tirades. I don't really believe it is a true issue with him (spite appears to be his main issue), I have tried several 64 bit versions of other distro's and find that there are many setup issues, dependency issues, and driver issues that have yet to be resolved to make a 64 bit version of any distro work as smoothly as their 32 bit versions. I spent a week of pure dependency hell trying to help a friend run Fedora 8 -- 64 bit; it never did work well. I have AMD 64 bit processes in every computer I own, but I haven't figured out yet how my meager, personal use needs will be transported to OS nirvana by installing a 64 bit system.

Exactly what type of work will the 64 bit system enhance? I don't do high end graphics, I do not do complex, lengthy mathematical calculations, I do not use the technology inherent in physics. What is the 64 bit 'sweet spot' that demands an OS for its capabilities? I know that Texstar at PCLOS has treated the issue as an 'experimental curiosity', and has not spent any real time trying to develop an OS written around it; he has a 64 bit kernel that is 'try at your own risk'.

It's sad that someone like ChrisA can find nothing better to do with their time than personally attack the efforts of others. What a small life that must be.....

Time to Kill It

Postby datman on Thu Jul 10, 2008 2:24 pm

Way to go, pcos08. I second your response - think it befitting of a "southern gentleman". ChrisA could just as well be the author of some of the insulting responses I've seen on the gNewsense forums. Obviously he doesn't know the facts, and doesn't care whether or not anyone but him uses Linux. I like gNewsense, but they are just a stripped down, no value added - only removed - version of Ubuntu. The arrogant purist attitude of some of their developers / users won't win many converts to Linux. I wish you success and hope you continue to find time for your creation.

Cheers,

Ubuntu has the Best Buy deal, PC/OS does not. Ubuntu has the users and the know how, PC/OS does not. Your BeOS Linux hybrid doesnt have a chance in high hell. Sorry dude, PC/OS was dead the minute you thought it up.

Daiman,

I couldn't agree with you more. It is getting awfully old having to listen to the 'village idiot' every time I come to the forum. It is, of course, PCOS08 to make the call, but I am putting in my vote (for whatever its worth) to bounce this idiot out of the forum.

It is annoying, distracting, and disruptive to have him continually post. Not even considering the fact that if anyone looks into the 'details' behind his rants, as you have, they find a mean spirited liar.

Chris, this makes strike 4. Including your thread "A Deal" and the derogatory remark in another thread.

Yep,
It's sad that some people have nothing better to do with their time than bash somebody else's effort.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I remember some time ago........when I got into Linux..... that was back in the stone age.......

There was a "little" distro that folks kept bashing...... and basically the guy said the same thing that was said here............it was his distro and if folks didn't like it.......well too bad..........go find a life ..........

It's abbreviation is DSL.......... :D

so..........keep on keepin' on...........

Earlier the FSF filed a lawsuit against Cisco Systems for violating the GPL and LGPL licenses. So whats this the final nail for? Who is the culprit? mr. PCOS, Roberto J. Dohnert himself is a contractor for Cisco Systems and works in their Unix division. I confirmed this. So I would like for mr. PCOS himself to explain how as a linux distributor how he allowed his company to violate the GPL and LGPL, a group that he works in.

This is the proof that its a Microsoft sposored distro and that Mr. PCOS himself is not worthy to distribute Linux in any way shape or form.

I unbanned you months ago on the promise you wouldnt flame, but alas you still do. Ok, first I will confirm I am on the contractors list at Cisco. What I did for Cisco had nothing to do with this issue and given the number of contractors and employees for Cisco I can tell you most of us didnt even know about the issue. I'm sure I will hear about it though. This is clearly an engineering issue and the term Unix division in Cisco is widely diverse. You have engineering, you have hardware and you have testing with hundreds of contractors and employees involved. Also the Lynksys group is different from the division I did work for. I worked with mostly IOS based routers and systems at Cisco and tested compatibility with Linux, HP/UX, Solaris, Windows etc.

Microsoft has not contributed code or any kind of financial support for PC/OS. All domains are registered to me, I pay for them and thats it. While I dont feel the need to defend myself. I feel like I need to squash the FUD you are trying to spread.

Robert,

This is living proof that no good deed goes unpunished. Please put a stake through this dweeb's heart, so that your more dedicated followers/users don't have to read his paranoid ravings.

Anyway, I only visit occasionally anymore, but it is clear that your progress has been steady and polished. Congratulations on doing things on your own terms. I hear Sinatra in the background, doing 'My Way'.....

As always, good luck and success in your venture.
