Live cd hangs when booting

Install the server system

Live cd hangs when booting

Postby tommes on Mon Jul 21, 2008 9:56 am

Hello,

I've been trying to install/run PC/OS server on a Via Epia V 10000 board, but the system hangs at "Starting Samba Daemon". I've tried different cd's but it just won't get passed the Samba Daemon.

Inside Virtualbox on a different pc there are no problems with the cd.

Does somebody have a solution?

Hey, which version of Open Server System are you trying 7.10 or 2008. I know 7.10 had this issue on some machines, with which the solution was just to press enter at Statring Samba Daemon, or is it Open Server System 2008?

The iso files of the cd's are pc-os20081ase.iso and the pc-os2008srvr.iso.
On both cd's burned with these images it occures.
I checked the md5sums before burning and one iso files i burned with a lower speed.
I hope you know what version comes with the iso images.

pc-os2008server.iso was one of the ones that had issues. On the download page, pc-os20081aserver.iso is the newest release, but you already downloaded the proper 1. When Grub starts, choose 'e' to edit the boot kernel, at the end type either one of these noapic and type 'b' which will boot the kernel or try apci=force and let me know what happens.

I had the same issue on a Compaq server, all I did was go to the straight install instead of trying to boot a session and the install went smooth as silk, I think its something to do with the MR release since the first version didnt have the issue.

I tried both the "noapic" and the "apci=force" option but neither off them worked.
To install it straight away didn work out also.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried installing a PC/OS workstation CD with that board? And have you tried an Ubuntu CD that way pcos08 can determine if its a problem with his distribution?

Okay,

Downloaded the i386 desktop edition of ubuntu 8.04 and it didn't work.
This time it stopped at "Starting the Hardware Abstraction Layer".
So the problem is not only with PC/OS but i guess it's the whole Ubuntu family.

What distributions have you tried in the past that have worked, it may just be a driver issue and I may be able to bring that driver over.

Hello Roberto,

In the past i've had different distro's running on this machine.
Today i run the following live cd distro's:
- Simply Mepis 7.0
- Dreamlinux 3.0.1
- Xubuntu 7.10

All these worked.
I hope you can use this information?!
